Q&A with Philip Anson
- What is your name?
- Philip Anson
- What was your very first cooking experience?
- Making play dough with my grandma when I was three years old.
- Do you ever make mistakes cooking?
- Undercooked bananna bread.
- Who taught you how to cook?
- Myself, jaques pepin (through his books), and the chefs I worked for growing up.
- Why do you like to plan and make meals?
- Precision, timing, and creative excelence is never more highlighted in a perfectly correographed meal.
- What advice do you have for kids 10 to 14 to learn to cook?
- Grow a garden – even if it’s small. Figure out what plants look like and how they grow. Discover something new. Home grown peas, tomatoes, and corn are far superior to store bought versions. Let nature and the seasons be your inspiration. When you cook, less is more. Simplicity is always best: garlic, good quality oil and salt, a bit of lemon juice, fresh herbs – those are usually the best compliments to fresh food.
- Why do you like zisboombah?
- Love the kid-friendly user compatibility. Kids can learn how to integrate different foods into meals while incorporating nutritional values. Connecting food to kids with games; definetly a great way to enlighten kids about the benefits of healthy eating.
- What is your favorite food?
- Smoked Carolina Style Pork.
- How long have you been a chef?
- I don’t know if I am really a “chef”, but I have been cooking since I could walk.
- Where do you work now?
- Phil’s Fresh Foods, AKA EVOL Burritos.
- What does your day consist of?
- I run Phil’s Fresh Foods, a Wholesale Food Manufacturing Company that manufactures EVOL Burritos. Since I am CEO, I have the benefit of doing lots of things that most people don’t ever get to experience. My day is always really varied and can start with team leadership meetings, end with turning a wrench on our food manufacturing line, and have any number of other activities layered in between.
- What thought process do you use when making a meal?
- I think about the people I will be sharing the food with. I think that eating and cooking brings people together and that’s what I love about food.
- If you have kids, do they like to eat your food?
- Lennon, 10 months, eats everything we eat. He’s already eaten fava beans, copper river salmon, homemade garden veggie soup, fresh peas, greek yogurt, beets, and more.
